Every year in the summer our team goes to Summerfest with other teams to demonstrate the annual game and to inspire appreciation for STEM. Although it isn't exactly easy to take the robot and all of our supplies down to Milwaukee and get it all into and out of the busy grounds (and it's probably much harder for team 537 Charger Robotics to set this up each year), it is always so worth it. Within our three hour competition period, hundreds of children and teenagers walked though and saw these cool and complex robots playing on the field right there, and they met the teenagers who build them. Although we might not have inspired every person who walked by or watched us, a few children were moved by this. Seeing kids faces light up when we show them the "inside" of our robot, or hearing the excitement when kids find out that they too could build a robot like this one day - that's why we and other FIRST teams reach out to our community.
Thank you to Charger Robotics for putting this on each year for all teams, and thank you to all who came.
